Founder and board director. Runs the booth and performs the testing.
Harm Reduction WA is a Washington nonprofit corporation. It brings overdose prevention to community events, gatherings and festivals across the state, free to anyone, with nothing asked in return.
I have worked in harm reduction for eight years, three of them professionally. What I do now is tell somebody what is actually in front of them, before they decide anything.
That means reagent testing with a full colorimetric panel, fentanyl test strips, and naloxone and harm reduction supplies handed out at every contact. I have searched far and wide to collect the most thorough supplies I can.
I have been running this booth at community events in Washington for a couple of years now. When I am not at the booth, I am walking the grounds with a sign, since plenty of people will not come looking on their own.
For years this was one person paying for everything out of pocket.
Incorporating means the work is not tied to one person’s budget. It also makes it possible to be insured, to accept support properly, and to grow past Washington, which is the intent.
Harm Reduction WA is independent and unaffiliated. We are not a chapter of any national network.
Three directors, all based in Washington.
